Water baby...well, not quite yet

We took Caleb for his first swim! We weren't sure what to expect.

Here he is getting ready to go with daddy. "What kind of crazy hat are they making me wear?"
We dipped in the toes...a little apprehensive...

Then a little deeper...getting concerned...

Then a little more...tensing up...frowny face...

Ok, enough!
Ok, so maybe he's not a water baby yet. We stripped him down and he chilled on the chair with me while David did a few laps. I'm sure he'll be splashing around with daddy soon enough. :)

Big eyes!

Maybe I have a child that scares easily. Or maybe he's just sensitive to noises right now. But whenever he hears something - ice crushing from the fridge, pots and pans going in the kitchen, or even mom making raspberries - I get this face:

Mr. Wide Eyes. Actually, I don't know if this accurately captures how big his eyes really get. It's funny. At least he doesn't start crying!

Other things Caleb has been doing these days: giggling, squealing, reaching for his feet, getting his knees up under his butt like he's trying to crawl, clasping his hands together, blowing spit bubbles, looking and smiling at himself in the mirror, sleeping a little better, and he's rolled over from belly to back three times so far. What an active little man!

So strong!

I snapped a few pictures of Caleb this morning having some time on his belly. What a cutie pie! He's getting so good at holding his head up and doing push-ups. Other skills he likes to show off lately are drooling, making bubbles, staring at everything, smiling, cooing, and putting his hand in his mouth. He still rarely unclenches his fist, so instead of sucking on a thumb or finger, he tries to get the whole thing in there. :)

He is an absolute joy! Don't get me wrong, we've had our hard days too - no sleep, lots of crying...some from me too, and he's even getting over his first cold. But we just feel so blessed and are trying to enjoy each moment.

He Is Risen!

I'm definitely not known for my gardening skills. I try, but I have kind of a brown thumb. David's mom gave me this bulb last year, and it never bloomed. In fact, I shoved the pot to the back of the patio and forgot about it because it looked like it was dead.

So imagine my surprise when I went outside one day and saw this beautiful flower! It reminded me today of God's desire to restore life...to bring forth beauty. It reminded me of the empty tomb...He who was once dead is now alive.

Enjoy this Easter season! He is risen indeed!

2-month stats

Mr. Caleb is a growing boy!

Length: 23" (50th percentile)
Weight: 11 lbs 7 oz (25-50th percentile)
Head Size: 15 1/2" (25-50th percentile)

This is the cute face I get to see every day! He is always full of smiles and coos (not quite giggles yet), especially when I'm changing him. Probably because he LOVES to be naked. So, as long as I'm sure he's not going to spray all over (which has happened quite a few times), we have lots of play time bare-bottomed.

He was such a trooper at his appointment today. He got 3 shots! He cried immediately, but it didn't last for more than a few seconds. But the shots are taking effect. He's been super sleepy and irritable all day. I'm ready for my boy to feel better.
