I have a "geckle"

Caleb pointed to a zit on my face yesterday and said, "geckle" - which means freckle.  I guess it was nice of him to avoid the fact that it was really a zit, but it was still unfortunate that he saw it and was preoccupied with continually pointing it out.  I had to laugh though.  Being a mom is humbling.  :)

Also, here is my most recent belly shot at 34 weeks:

Getting big!  I'm just over 35 weeks now.  Caleb came at 38 weeks.  Yikes!  I looked at the calendar and there is a full moon on October 22 - I'll be 38 1/2 weeks then.  Caleb came around a full moon too.  They say that women really do go into labor more around full moons.  So we'll see what happens!

Beach Day in Galveston

Summer lasted a little longer for us - we hit the beach today to soak in the last bits of warm weather.  We also wanted to have Caleb experience his first beach trip without the 100+ degree weather, and we got to celebrate his Grammy's birthday (she LOVES the beach).

We couldn't have had better weather!  It was warm and breezy.  It was so nice, I didn't even need to rent an umbrella.  Usually, I wouldn't be able to sit in the sun for 2 1/2 hours, but it wasn't bad.  The beach was pretty empty, the water was nice and warm, the sand was soft, and the water was clean.

Caleb laughed the whole way to Galveston because Uncle Danny was sitting in the back with him.  We got to the beach around 9:30.  Caleb wasn't too sure if he liked the sand and moving waves at first, but then he got used to it and had fun.  But he didn't really smile or laugh much.  He was just concentrating on digging in the sand with his shovel and buckets, or pointing at the helicopters, or chasing birds.  So I didn't really get any smiling pictures.

At one point I turned around and saw David and Danny tossing Caleb back and forth in the water.  I think this kind of craziness is what my future holds with a household of boys.  They said Caleb loved it.  I was just praying as I watched my baby get tossed 5 feet into the air.  We were definitely entertaining the other people around us.

We stayed on the beach until about 12:15.  Then we went to lunch and Caleb fed himself fish sticks and french fries dipped in cocktail sauce.  He sat and ate really well.  We ate on the second story patio of the restaurant, so Caleb got to watch all the cars and birds go by.

We started heading back home around 1:45...waaaay past his nap time.  He tried keeping his eyes open in the car, and he lasted about 3 minutes - then he was out the rest of the way home.  Poor guy has trouble sleeping in his new car seat though because it sits straight up and doesn't recline like his old one, so his head kept bobbing or was collapsed all the way on his chest.  We did a transfer to the crib when we got home, and he slept until 4:45.  So he was definitely tired from all the fun!

So now that our beach day is done, fall is officially here for us.  And there are two ways we're celebrating that tonight - my first pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks and watching college football.  :)

Fun things this weekend

We had two fun surprises for Caleb this weekend.  One was his big boy car seat, and the other was his first Astros game!

Ok, don't tell Caleb when he's older that we kept him facing backward in his infant carrier until he was 19 1/2 months old.  It might hurt his ego.  Most kids start facing forward when they turn one, but our little guy didn't hit 20 lbs until recently.  I think he's only 21 1/2 lbs now.  Apparently the new government recommendation is to keep them facing backward until they are two years old, so if he finds out, we can just tell him we were being on the safe side.  :)

To say he loved his new car seat is an understatement.  He was just smiling ear to ear, as you can see from the pictures David took with his phone:

He also attended his first Houston Astros game.  Again, he LOVED this!  He was mesmorized by the crowds, the cheering, the big JumboTron, the train on the side of the stadium...  It was a blast.  We only stayed for about 1/2 of the game, but it was well worth it.  And the Astros won!

He loved clapping with the fans!

Recent stories and pictures

Well, we saw a little bully side of Caleb come out last night at church.  We let him go in the childcare room as we were filling out the sign-in form.  He went straight over to the little play house and walked in while another kid was in there.  David and I looked over and saw him yank a truck out of the kid's hand and walk away.  We both stared in unbelief and looked at each other like, "Did we just see that happen?"  The other kid was not happy and chased after Caleb to try to get it back.  And he was a bigger kid too.  And Caleb just looked like, there is no way you are getting this back.  We almost said something to the teacher, but there were a lot of kids there and more people behind us trying to get in.  And when we picked him up, he was still holding the same truck.  Guess we're going to need to work on that!

On a sweeter note, when we were walking out to our car, we got to see all the cars going by on the highway.  We stood there for about 15 minutes as he pointed to all the cars, and got SUPER excited every time a big rig went by.  I mean he was jumping out of his skin in excitement.  It was dark out so all the headlights were on.  It was like he was watching fireworks because he clapped and jumped up and down when he spotted a big truck.  We tried to get a video with David's phone, but it was too dark.

He's been super clingy and whiny.  He held on to my legs and cried the whole time I did the dishes this morning.  And any time he slightly bumps his head or falls, he runs over really dramatically and wants me to pick him up and give him a hug.

He also started doing part of "This Little Light of Mine."  He holds out his finger, covers it up, then pulls it away and says, "NO!"  And he'll try to blow it out too.  :)

And here are some new pics of our little guy:

Very interested in exploring his world.

Man on a mission.

Milk thief

Whenever I eat cereal, Caleb likes to beg for the milk from my cereal bowl.  Maybe he likes the sweetened taste, or maybe he just likes to drink the milk from the spoon.  Or both.  Sometimes I think he does it just to be funny.
