David and I were blessed to have my parents come for an extended weekend and watch Caleb so we could go to Florida to celebrate our 6th anniversary. I can't believe it's been six years! After six years together, we're more in love than when we got married, we still crack each other up, and we still love hanging out with each other.
The trip started with a long 10-hour drive, stops included. It really didn't feel that long - but my opinion probably doesn't matter since I slept a couple hours of it.
When we crossed over into Louisiana, we decided we should have some local food for lunch - Popeyes! Ha!
Well, once we reached Baton Rouge, we decided to have some real local food at Coffee Call. We stopped there for a treat of beignets (pronounce bey-nyay, the French word for "fried dough") and hot cocoa. This coffee shop has been around for over 30 years. David grew up stopping there on family road trips.
YUM!!!
We got to see a rainbow on the bridge over to Fort Walton.
And we pulled up to our quaint little bed & breakfast.
We enjoyed the beautiful home on the water, the long porch with rocking chairs, and the delicious breakfasts! We had french toast, fruit salad, cobbler, bacon, eggs, and grits each morning. Breakfast is such a treat to me. I've never had grits before, but these were soooo yummy!
We had two gorgeous days on the beach - relaxing, playing in the water, reading, and people watching. :) Destin beaches are so clean and beautiful. No signs of the oil spill!
We had such a good time together! But after seeing some of the kids playing on the beach, we were getting homesick for our Caleb. Next time we head to the beach, he is coming with us!
Oh, and we found one of Caleb's finger puppets in the car while we were there - a crab we named Monsieur Crabby. He enjoyed his time at the beach as well. And he even got a treat of french beignets on the way home.
