Last weekend we took a hop, skip and a jump over to Hot Springs, Arkansas for a mini family vaca. Some friends there hosted us for a few days while we enjoyed the cool weather and the therapeutic waters.
While there, Caleb had his first boat ride.
They even had a little life vest for him to wear. It was hilarious. I thought he might throw a fit when we tried to put it on him, but he was totally calm. And he didn't even fuss once on the boat. He seemed to love the wind in his hair and looking back at all the waves.

Green beans and toes
Mmmm, sounds like a delicacy, huh? I just started to give Caleb green beans this week, and he seems to really like them.
Can't say the same for the rice cereal. I tried to give it to him again, and he kind of gagged, pushed away the spoon, and wiped his mouth. I guess he knows there are other flavors out there now besides bland mush.
I was a little nervous because his first real food was banana. People usually say to start with a veggie, so they don't prefer the sweets. But I figured he's going to have sweets eventually, and I had a ripe banana, so we tried it. And he really liked it. So I was so happy when he tried the green beans and liked them too.
I usually put him in the high chair to eat...but I don't put the tray on, I just buckle him in. He does NOT like to be restricted, so without the tray I guess he feels more freedom.
Well, yesterday I was feeding him green beans, and between each bite, he would pull up his feet and suck on his toes. hee hee. It was making me laugh. Silly boy.
Of course, I had to wipe off all the green beans that got on his hands and feet. Oh well, at least he enjoyed it!

Dude...
I'm not sure what else to say besides "dude" when I look at all the stuff I got from Kroger yesterday for their double-up-to-a-$1 coupon deal. The Grocery Game put up a list especially for this sale. Check it out:
Before I gave them my coupons, the total was about $130 (and that was after the Kroger card sales and my eCoupons were already subtracted, so it would have been more).
Well, after all of my coupons rang up, my grand total was:
$49.87!!!!
I probably bought a few things I really didn't need because they were just so darn cheap. And I'm bummed because I forgot to use 2 coupons. Oh well, I'm a rookie. :)
I got:
Food
2 blocks of cream cheese, 2 6-packs of bottled water, 2 Pringles, 2 boxes of Poptarts, 2 boxes of fruit snacks, 2 boxes of Rick Krispies Treats, 2 boxes of cereal, a Starbucks frappuccino, 2 jars of pasta sauce, 4 bags of rice, salad dressing, mayonnaise, 2 mustards, 2 packages of waffles, sour cream, soup, pepperoni, frozen hashbrowns, Bertolli
Toiletries
body lotion, 2 nail polishes, eye shadow, mascara, 2 shaving gels, hair spray, 3 deodorants (these toiletries alone would usually cost around $30+)
Misc
2 boxes of ziplock bags, 2 air freshener sprays, carpet odor eliminator, Windex cleaner, ant baits, batteries, gum, diapers, dishwashing detergent
The Grocery Game does help you find good deals on produce and meat, but this day was just for coupons - so that explains a lot of the nonperishables and snack foods in there.
A couple things I've learned about The Grocery Game so far...
- HEB usually has lower everyday prices, but they don't double or triple coupons, and they don't allow you to combine store coupons with manufacturer coupons. Kroger also lets you load coupons onto your Kroger card, and you can combine them with actual coupons. For example, I got 2 Degree deodorants, and I had two coupons for them - one $1 off and one $.75 off (which both got doubled). Well, I also added a '$1.50 off when you buy two' to my Kroger card...so I saved $5 on those two deodorants. But HEB will still be my store of choice when I have to run out and get stuff I need right away.
- I had to get over my "I don't need it right now" mentality. The idea is to pay $.50 for shaving gel now, verses $3 when I actually need it. They call it stockpiling. I don't really like keeping a ton of stuff - it makes me feel like a pack-rat - but I have a few cabinets I can spare to store a few extra items in.

6-month stats
Length: 26" (50th percentile)

So he's a growing boy! Didn't weigh as much as I thought. I thought he was closer to 15 lbs. But the doctor said he's healthy and growing, and he might just be on the lighter side because he's so active! No ear infections, so that's good!He got 2 shots and an oral vaccine. He put up a fuss more for the oral one than the shots. He cried a bit for the shots, but was back to normal soon. Then he was all smiles once we got him home.

Oh, and I'll have to tell you what our genius child did this morning: After my shower, I put him on my bedroom floor, and turned the Today Show in the tv. Then I gave him the remote control to play with. Well, he turned it to channel 8 - PBS and started watching Curious George. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Happy 6 months, Caleb!
Whoa! My little boy is already 6 months old!
6 months ago:
today:
In the past 6 months he has learned how to:
- laugh
- squeal
- roll both ways
- grab things
- put everything in his mouth
- army crawl
- push up on all 4's
- play peek-a-boo
- get into things and places I didn't expect
- occasionally get his pacifier back into his mouth
- and lots more
Things he likes:
- reading
- stroller rides
- nursery at church
- the pool (well, most of the time)
- when I sing to him
- moving constantly
- going to the store
- outdoors
- hanging out with friends
Things he doesn't like:
- playing by himself too long
- sitting in something restrictive
- playing with the same toy too long, he gets frustrated
- being on the changing table as much as he used to
He's really developing a sense of humor. He lets us know when he likes something with a big smile or a laugh. And he definitely lets us know when he doesn't like something by yelling and grunting. He has started to look for me when other people hold him. And sometimes he even reaches out for me or crawls over to me.
He still hasn't learned to sit by himself yet. Probably because he's constantly moving! We're going to start feeding him baby food soon. I'm going to try to make my own. We'll see how that goes!
Lots of changes, and many more to come! We love you, Caleb!
